do the non USCG approved jackets hely you stay afloat or no? I am looking to get one and was wondering if they work well. Are they better for wakeboarding or jetskiing? please explain.
Would you suggest that I need one even though all I do is just ride and not compete?My other one is very big and isn't very easy to ride in.
It is simple....USCG Approved jackets are called Life Vest for a reason, they can save your life. Non USCG vest are non more commonly as Comp or Impact Vest...meaning the provide protection against the impact of the water in a fall, plus extra mobility cause it is the closest thing to not wearing a jacket at all. I only ride in these Comp Vests, and am fully aware of the risks that come with this choice. I have an Oneil Comp Vest and to give you an idea of how much float they have, if i relax in the water and let the vest float me, the water line is around my mouth/jaw line....however a USCG vest will float you with a water level around your chest.
I will admit that after riding in comp vests for so long, i can't imagine going back to the bulky USCG vests. Also if you are going to use a comp vest, make sure you have a USCG vest on the boat as well...comp vest do not count toward the life jacket boating rule.

Well he has broken his right collarbone once in grade 4 falling off a play structure lol. he broke the same collarbone in november 2008 off a jump. Then again just today he shattered will he ever be able to freestyle ski without out breaking it again? and another thing will his parents even let him now!
That's one weak collarbone. Luckily bones grow back stronger than when they were broken, in most cases anyway. As long as he lets it heal properly he'll be able to ski again but may want to consider taking a multivitamin or one specifically designed to aid in the healing of broken bones. Taking a calcium supplement won't be enough as calcium requires magnesium and vitamin D to be absorbed properly by the body. By no means should you let him go skiing until he is cleared by the doctor.
